I’m back in Bristol! After a short stint at CookiesHQ as a UX Designer earlier this year, I’m thrilled to announce that I’m rejoining them as their UX/UI designer. I start tomorrow! Right now I’m sat in an inflatable dinghy in my new house. This is my first night and I don’t have a bed, so this is where I shall sleep.

It was back in February when I did my short stint at CookiesHQ, redesigning their experimental web app Bar Voyage, which was great fun and also gave me a great insight into the company. They’re a small tech agency that uses their expertise in start-ups and scale-ups to build incredibly high performance products for companies looking to grow.

Being back in Bristol feels right and there’s a lot going on in the tech scene within Bristol, so hopefully it’ll be a good area to grow my UX skills. This is a role I’ve been trying to get into for quite some time, ever since my developer days at Sparkol – where I would often present ideas and approaches to major stakeholders and their UX/UI design team. I found their work intriguing although I was forever frustrated that I couldn’t have as much impact on the final product as them.

That’s when I started researching UX practices and how to build products based on user needs. A lot of it came quite naturally after starting out as a jack-of-all-trades independent game developer and later on, a start-up founder with limited investment. Building up my skills over the years talking to users, planning future phases and iterations of products, learning how to feature-pivot and design around user stories has finally got me to a place where I’m not just feeding back on the user experience, I get to do it as my full-time role. I am extremely excited and look forward to being part of the company as it grows with the start-ups it helps.
